Jonners is a street and candid photographer who is interested in snapping the moment, with no care for the delicacies that have grown up around photography. They enjoy using all types of equipment, whether cutting-edge, retro or vintage, each of which gives a different type of image.
”I wander the streets like a kleptomaniac – except I take photos rather than steal things. I don’t give a monkey’s about tedious things like film speed, shutter aperture or anything to do with exposure. What is important is the moment, and I preserve that for posterity.”
Jonners has recently come back from a trip around the world. “I spent 18 months travelling the globe with just a camera and three hundred memory cards. I took some stunning pictures in hundreds of cities, and in Scotland I even took a photo that gave definitive proof that the Loch Ness Monster exists. Unfortunately no one believes me as I lost the memory cards in a mix up over luggage in Chester-le-Street.”
Jonners works in colour and black and white, “Black and white is just so moody and charged, but sometimes I want a splash of colour. I love black and white. But sometimes you just need colour to show the chaos of city life.” They also work with instant and retro cameras, creating images with panache and character.
