Wafaa Bilal - Iraqi artist
Feb 6th, 2009 by fine art dealer
If you want to check out some interesting contemporary work mosey on over to Wafaa Bilal’s site at www.wafaabilal.com. Interesting work - his brother and father were killed in the Iraq war, and he has locked himself in a gallery in Chicago and allowed people to shoot at him with a paintball gun. Visitors shot at him 60,000 times - which works out at £2500 worth of paintball pellets. Scary stuff. The Chicago Tribune reviewed it as “one of the sharpest works of political art to be seen in a long time,” which is an opinion hard not to agree with.
Well worth taking time to check out. He has written a book called Art, Life and Resistance Under the Gun, if anyone has read it, please leave a review.
