Watercolour painting of the Old harbour at Fishguard, West Wales. The sky is a real treat in this painting by Rebecca Davies. If you’ve ever been to Wales you’ll recognise the brooding skies and the the boat resting in shallow water waiting for the tide to flow back down the small estuary.

This is one of those paintings that perfectly captures the essence of the subject matter. The loose working and brush strokes create an exciting visual freedom that expresses the unexpected beauty of this out-of-the-way Welsh village. This is where the Last Invasion of the UK took place - in 1797! The French sailed to Fishguard and were captured by a much smaller Welsh contingent - the women in their red dresses said to be mistaken for British redcoats. This painting is of the exact location where this last invasion took place!

Only just hitting the fim festivals, but one to look out for is Strange Culture, by Lynn Hershman Leeson. This is a documentary about artist Steve Kurtz and his experiences with the FBI thinking his art was bioterrorism. The trailors are here.
Looking forward to seeing it.

Theo Van Gogh is an inspiration to all art dealers. Here we believe in emulating his desire to get the best new artwork out into the world. Contemporary art is the most exciting area of life and we need to make sure that the best new artists are not only discovered, but that their work makes it into collections - both private and national.
Bring on the best contemporary art!

Only monarchs can lose things for 400 years. At last we see ‘The calling of Peter and Andrew’ which has been deemed an original Caravaggio by Maurizio Marini. Valued at £50m this is quite a thing to find in the attic, but after years of analysis and cleaning it is finally ready to show.
In the London show at Buckingham Palace this Caravaggio will be exciting al art lovers. It will be great to see a new work by the violent artist. Please leave a comment as you see the work and give your opinions.

The Oriel Myrddin gallery in Carmarthen is showing a work from the Turner prize nominated contemporary artist Cornelia Parker, entitled ‘neither from nor towards’
The cryptic title does not prepare the viewer for what they will see as they walk into the gallery. Parker has taken the remaining bricks of a house eroded away on the cliffs of Dover and suspended them in the air.

The house fell onto the beach below, where the sea has eroded them further into the irregular shapes seen in the gallery. Parker has arranged them in a simple house shape, returning the bricks to a semblance of their original purpose. Whilst aping the house they once were, they no longer perform any function related to a house.
The piece suggests ideas of death in life, the continuing to subsist as a shell whilst the original purpose, drive and being has already left - like the effects of alzheimer’s in human interactions.

The sculpture hangs from the ceiling, continuing the fragile existence the house originally enjoyed on the English cliffs. A meditation on life, death and the delicate link between the two that all humans suffer but tend to ignore.

Check here for photos of Damien Hirst’s latest opening party. It is remarkable that he has been singled out for art star treatment. Anyway, here are the photos from his exhibition at Gagosian, Beverly Hills. Like all art world private views, you can’t actually see the work at all.

Take a look at this link and scroll down to the black and white photo by George Tice - Joe’s barber shop. Sure it’s retro and laden with nostalgia, but it’s got that uncertain expectation - is the shop shut for the day or is it bankrupt, sorta a Hopper painting in silver chloride. An image that lets your mind make up a hundred stories and wander for hours.
Good buy sir!
